Ежегодно курсанты Краснодарского высшего военного училища имени генерала армии С.М. Штеменко принимают участие в Международной олимпиаде курсантов образовательных организаций высшего образования по иностранному языку. Центр (лингвистический МО РФ) Военного университета разрабатывает методические рекомендации для подготовки команд вузов по четырём номинациям.
Номинация «Технический прогресс в военном деле» предполагала написание участниками сочинения и инструкции по одному из аспектов использования технического изделия, информация о котором приводилась в предъявляемом для изучения тексте на английском языке. Текст мог включать описание, устройство и принцип действия и т.п. технического устройства.
В результате каждым курсантом должен написать сочинение и инструкцию, при этом их тексты не должны в полном объёме или частично (на уровне отдельных предложений) являться копией исходного текста.
При проверке работ в качестве основных критериев оценки были установлены следующие:
- соответствие заявленной темы;
- полнота и правильность передачи содержания;
- новизна текста;
- целостность и связность текста;
- соблюдение грамматических правил и лексических норм;
- соблюдение правил орфографии.
Следует констатировать, что при выполнении тренировочных письменных заданий участники команды военного вуза были ориентированы преподавателем на учёт всех вышеуказанных критериев.
Необходимо было не только нацелить, но и научить курсантов придерживаться заявленной темы, правильно и полно передавать содержание текста, соблюдать такие важные требования, как целостность и связность текста (содержательная сторона), но также соблюдать орфографические и грамматические правила, а также правила лексической сочетаемости (формальная сторона).
Акцент был сделан на новизну текста, поскольку, как нам представлялось, именно данный критерий требует особых усилий и более тщательной отработки.
Порождение высказывания (текста) является весьма сложным процессом, а процесс порождения высказывания (текста) на иностранном языке значительно усложняется. Поэтому использовались тренировочные задания, направленные на развитие умений и навыков по формулированию мысли на английском языке несколькими способами.
Так, например, курсантам было предложено выразить содержание отдельного предложения, заменив в нём начало или конец предложения.
Исходное предложение было следующим:
All engineers know that the drill and the drilling derrick of the oil platform use steel bolts.
Начало предложения могло выглядеть так:
It’s a well-known fact that …
Any engineer knows that …
Any engineer knows about …
Окончание предложения могло иметь следующий вид:
… steel bolts are used in the construction of the oil platform’s drill and drilling derrick.
…the usage of steel bolts while constructing the drill and the derrick of the oil platform.
Таким образом, курсанты делали выбор (в случае начала Any engineer knows about… единственный – the usage of steel bolts while constructing the drill and the derrick of the oil platform).
Преподаватель ставил курсантам задачу замены глагола в активном залоге на глагол в пассивном залоге:
So, experts must test the bolts’ safety. – That’s why the quality of the bolts must be checked by all means.
Возможен и такой вариант:
Therefore, it’s obligatory to check the reliability of the bolts.
Должного внимания потребовала отработка слов и словосочетаний, которые связывают отдельные части высказывания. Как известно, в зависимости от значения эти средства связи можно разделить на несколько групп [1]:
Средства связи, указывающие на порядковую последовательность мыслей и действий: first, at first, in the beginning, to begin with – во-первых, сначала, прежде всего; second, secondly – во-вторых; finally, at last, in the end – наконец.
Средства связи, выражающие присоединение к высказыванию: in addition – кроме того; moreover – более того; besides – кроме этого.
Средства связи, выражающие противопоставление: however, nevertheless – однако, тем не менее; on the contrary – наоборот; on the one hand, on the other hand – с одной стороны, с другой стороны.
В результате произведённых преобразований предложений курсанты представили три варианта возможных трансформаций первоначального текста:
Is the Certification of Materials Necessary?
Вариант № 1
All engineers know that the drill and the derrick of the oil platform use steel bolts.
As a rule, bolts are made from the correct material. The usage of the wrong material may lead to the breaking of the bolts during drilling. And the broken bolts having fallen on the heads of the workers can cause serious injuries and even people’s deaths.
To prevent this, the bolts mustn’t be brittle at low temperatures. Therefore, it’s obligatory to check the reliability of the bolts.
It’s also important to remember that the construction of the platform lasted for a long time, and different engineers worked together to fulfill the task.
The matter of the bolt specification was discussed but the main cause of the misunderstanding was poor documentation. The correct bolts must have two additional numbers in their specification number, but because of the replacement of the personnel theу were lost.
Fortunately, the problem with the bolts marking was discovered during the certification review performed by the quality assurance engineer at the end of the project. Finally, after the replacement of the wrongly specified bolts experts certified the product.
Of course, the cost of the bolt replacement was high: hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, people’s health and their lives may have been saved. And this is more important than the sum of paid money.
Thus, the certification of materials is always necessary.
Вариант № 2
It’s a well-known fact that steel bolts are used in the construction of the oil platform’s drill and drilling derrick.
Normally, only the proper steel must be used for this purpose. Drilling may result in bolts becoming brittle. Thus, the fallen steel bolts can seriously injure or even kill the people working below the drill.
To prevent breaking and falling, these design items must be solid at low temperatures. That’s why the quality of the bolts must be tested by all means.
But it is necessary to take into consideration that during the long-term construction several design teams of engineers took part in the project. The correct specification was discussed but the results were not documented in the proper way. The changes in personnel could lead to the loss of the two additional digits in the bolts specification number which must distinguish the correct bolts and the actually used ones.
Happily, during the certification while inspecting the steel bolts and their labeling the quality assurance engineer detected the problem. More than that, the problem was solved. As all the wrongly specified bolts had been changed, the certification was given.
It’s clear, that a large sum of money was paid for the change of steel bolts. But this price was lower than the cost of the workers’ lives.
So, I’m sure that the certification of materials is very important and necessary.
Вариант № 3
Any engineer knows that all oil platforms consist of drill and derrick as their main constituent elements. These components are connected with steel bolts which must be made from the correct material to withstand shearing under the stresses of drilling.
In the case of the wrong material the bolts are easily subjected to getting brittle and breakable at low temperatures. As a result, they can fall and injure the workers below the derrick. Moreover, they can kill them.
That’s why before using the steel bolts must be carefully inspected and replaced by the correct ones before the certification review. Then experts certify the product.
As a rule, the process of construction takes several months and sometimes years. Therefore, a lot of specialists take part in it. Because of the personnel’s alteration the two additional digits in the specified bolts were lost. This happened due to the poor documentation of the discussed matters related to the problems of the bolts material.
Certainly, the wrong bolts were found and changed. The replacement was expensive: 250 dollars.
Thanks to the work of quality assurance engineer the workers’ health and their lives were saved.
Life proved the necessity of materials certification.
С обучающей целью курсанты сначала выполняли перевод готовой инструкции с английского языка на русский, а затем – с русского языка на английский:
Materials for projects must be specified by qualified engineers and experts.
Different environmental factors must be considered.
Certification of the constructing materials must be done at the end of the project or near its very end.
The routine inspection must be carried out by quality assurance engineer.
His duty is to identify that the product is the correct material.
The production made from the wrong material must be immediately replaced.
One design team must work on a project throughout its development and construction: the changes in personnel may lead to serious drawbacks.
The certification is necessary to discover the drawbacks and correct the problem in order not to harm the health and life of people.
Материалы для проектов должны специфицироваться квалифицированными инженерами и экспертами.
Необходимо рассматривать разные факторы окружающей среды.
В конце проекта или близко к его завершению должна быть проделана сертификация строительных материалов.
Обычный осмотр должен быть выполнен инженером по проверке гарантии качества.
Его задача состоит в определении правильного материала.
Продукция, сделанная из неправильного материала, должна немедленно заменяться.
Одна команда должна работать над проектом на протяжении его разработки и строительства: замена может привести к серьёзным ошибкам.
Сертификация необходима для выявления ошибок и исправления проблемы, для того, чтобы не навредить здоровью и жизни людей.
Далее обучающиеся составляли свои инструкции на русском и английском языках:
Стальные болты должны изготавливаться из правильного материала из-за вероятной ломкими при низких температурах.
Головы рабочих должны быть защищены от возможного падения стальных болтов или других деталей буровой вышки.
Сертификация должна быть проделана в конце любого проекта.
Её должны выполнить эксперты не только для выявления проблемы, но и для её скорейшего решения.
Для предотвращения ошибок лучше использовать одну и ту же команду во время разработки и строительства.
Для спецификации правильных болтов должны быть добавлены две дополнительные цифры в их спецификационный номер.
До сертификации все неправильные стальные болты должны быть обнаружены и заменены, несмотря на высокую стоимость процедуры замены и отсрочку во времени.
Для предупреждения неверного понимания документация должна быть хорошей.
Steel bolts must be made from the correct material because they are subjected to getting brittle at low temperatures.
Workers heads must be protected against the falling steel bolts or other components of the derrick.
Certification must be done at the end of any project.
It must be performed by experts to detect the problem and solve it as soon as possible.
It’s better to use the same design team during the design and the construction phase to prevent mistakes.
To specify the correct bolts two additional digits must be added in their specification number.
Before the certification all the wrongly specified steel bolts must be discovered and replaced in spite of the high replacement cost and time delay.
To prevent misunderstanding the documentation mustn’t be poor.
Как показал опыт работы, после выполнения обучающих заданий под руководством преподавателя курсанты научились самостоятельно справляться с подобными заданиями. Несомненно, полученные навыки пригодятся обучающимся в будущей работе при написании сочинений или инструкций по любой тематике, включая военную.
